The diversity of activity available in Patagonia is hard to match anywhere in the world. From water sports to trekking, to climbing it is all here and readily available to our guests. Here are some examples of what we can arrange for our guests:
Photography: The variety of landscape, the Gauchos, the unique birds and animals, the flora and fauna all represent wonderful opportunities for the amateur and professional photographer. The long days, sunrises and twilight offer incredible opportunities for unique photographs.
Bird Watching: No bird watchers book can be complete without a trip to Patagonia. With over 150 species ranging from the magnificent South American Condor to the beautiful hawks and unique parrots this is the place to see new birds in a spectacular setting.
Golf: A Jack Nicholas designed 18 hole golf course has just opened 17 miles from The Río Dorado Lodge. Set in the spectacular volcanic terrain of Patagonia it is one of the most beautiful courses you will every play.
Riding: Horseback trips can be arranged for rides of any duration from an afternoon to a week. You can chose from the mountains, the plains, the Mapuche reservation or the vast National Park. For those who prefer 4 - wheelers similar trip can be arranged.
Trekking: If you like to trek, you can trek forever in Patagonia, through the mountains and plains, and along the rivers and lakes. Guided or not.
Rafting: White water rafting in Patagonia will delight both rafting novices and experienced rafters. The scenery is spectacular and the water exciting. Specialized guides with especially equipped boats make for an unforgettable but safe experience.
Climbing: How about Lanin rising 12,000 ft.? Enough of a challenge? Don´t forget the Andes rise everywhere on the Western horizon. Challenges of all levels. Well trained mountain guides accompany you for safety and advice.
Thermal Springs: Surprised to learn there are thermal springs in the middle of the Andes Mountains ? There are and they are located only 50 miles from The Río Dorado Lodge. Want a relaxing day in the middle of your fly fishing trip-this is it.
Scenic Boat Trip: The Jose Julian pleasure boat offers a wonderful trip around Huechulafquen and Epulafquen lakes. The scenery is spectacular and the day a real treat.
Political History: Junín de los Andes was founded in 1883 and is the oldest town in the Neuquén Province. It´s history is rich and varied from its roll in the Mapuche wars to the founding of the great estancies and town.
Religious History: This is the home of Laura Vicuña a religious icon. The Via Christi Church in Junín is famous for its melding of the Catholic faith to the Mapuche culture and the resulting unique church. For those interested in religious architecture, in a breathtaking location the church on Paimun Lake is nor to be missed.
Via Christi Walk: Less than one mile from The Río Dorado Lodge is one of the most moving religious experiences in Christendom. The Passion of Christ as seen through the agony of the Mapuche people. Eighteen heroic tableaus and 28 gigantic carved stone tablets depict the shared agony of Christ and the Mapuche. Magnificent as works of art and spiritually moving this experience should not be missed.
