Many fly fishermen consider Patagonia to be the finest fly fishing in the world. Home of the legendary Malleo, Caleufu, Chimehuin, Alumine, Collon Cura and Limay rivers and the magnificent Huechulafquen, Paimun, Lolog and Curruhue Lakes, this area can only be described as “Fly Fishing Paradise”. These rivers, streams, and lakes contain great rainbows, browns, brookies, and land locked salmon. Fish of 5 to 10 pounds are not uncommon and fish over ten pounds are often hooked. All the lakes and rivers are crystal clear and afford thousands of miles for wading and fishing.
Fly fishermen sometimes dream about catching big trout on idyllic rivers in total solitude, surrounded by the grandeur of nature, reserved for them alone. This is still possible here in Patagonia in the vast fishing area where one can fish from sun up to sun down and not see another fisherman.
Junín de los Andes is strategically located right in the center of this “Fly Fishing Paradise”. Within 20 miles of Junín are eight great rivers and streams and six magnificent lakes. The vast and spectacular National Park is also only a very short drive from Junin.
Each of the great rivers has its own special characteristics and “best” trout pools. We provide our guests with expert guides who have many years of experience and who know which flies are best and which pools contain the “big ones”. Where float trips are most effective, we provide the very best in equipment and guides. We pamper our guests not only at The Río Dorado Lodge but also on these beautiful rivers, streams and lakes.
All of these great rivers and lakes are in a setting that will take your breath away. Catching a Big Trout or Salmon in these surroundings is an unforgettable experience and we are here to help you make it happen.
Located on the grounds of the Lodge is a complete fly shop. All fly fishing equipment and supplies are available at the Fly Shop as well as all the information you may need about where to fish on a particular day and which flies to use. Guides and Float Trips are arranged through the Fly Shop.
The Río Dorado Lodge provides for guests a FLY FISHING SCHOOL for those who are just beginning to fly fish or those who wish to brush up a little before hitting the river. Instruction is on our own trout pond and is done by our experienced instructors who have a few tricks up their sleeve that will help you out on the rivers and lakes.
The fishing season opens on the November first and closes in some places on the Sunday after Good Friday. Many river stretches remain open for barbless hook only until May 31.
Lolog Lake, Piedra del Aguila Lake and several other places are open all year.
